Who Am I?
Well in the course of getting my degree, I have written many introductions, but for some reason this one seems the hardest. If I were to explain myself to you, I would have to say first and foremost, I am a Christian woman that is extremely thankful for her loving family. Life has blessed me with two amazing boys, Thomas (22) and Solomon (16). Without them, my life would be void of the remarkable joy in which they bring to me every day. The bond that was created as a result of being a single mother is unbreakable. I owe much gratitude to my parents and siblings for supporting me through the years, without them life would have proven to be just a little less bright. I have been fortunate in the sense that I have been able to do what I love for the last 14 years of my life, and that is work with children.
Back in 1998, I made the decision to open a child care, and boy am I happy I did. I have found a true love and passion. It has been an amazing ride and I would not change a minute of it. I would not be who I am today, if I had traveled any other path. It was not until 2005 that I realized that I wanted to work with the orphans of the world. This was a huge turning point in my life. Knowing my children were still to young for me to go on any wild adventures, I kept this passion stored in my heart, knowing that someday I would be able to spread my love to children all over the world. This was an exciting dream to hold onto. In 2009, I realized that I had to start to prepare myself for this calling and decided that I needed to educate myself.
Before I knew it, I found myself enrolled in the Human Services Child and Family Welfare program here at Kaplan University. A decision I will never regret. In the last two years, I have ventured out and started fulfilling my dream of working in the field of International Adoption. It truly has been an incredible time in my life and the skills that I have learned here have helped me do it all. This website will give you a good look at the last year of my life and how I have been putting my education to work around the world. I hope you enjoy!
Blessings,
Alissa Lee
