Life! This is what I felt the moment we drove onto FHL Kids Ranch. I had not
even got out of the vehicle and I knew the grounds were blessed. It was that
deep inner feeling you get when you are worshiping and the Lord is so present
that you can not do anything but inhale a deep breath and melt at His presence.
A little overwhelmed and not fully yet understanding this incredible feeling, I
stepped out of the car and clarification was immediately received.
The moment my feet hit the ground, I was greeted by the children. Some a
little more hesitant than others, but all offering a Filipino blessing. Just as our Lord and Savior greets us with welcoming open arms so did the children and staff of FHL Ranch. With an extended arm Lorraine welcomed me and offered to show me around. The environment was clean, orderly, loving with a clear tone of
celebration. From the office, school house and sleeping houses to the dining hall, the children’s faces were seen and celebrated. The environment showed them love. Actions are everything to a child in this situation as they have become
callus to empty words and promises. Everything about FHL Ranch, the ranch and the staff, showed the children love.
The children had chores and duties that were to be done daily. There is organizations, love and respect in all of it. The children are put on teams and there are team leaders. They are rewarded for their responsibilities appropriately and when needed talk openly about issues that need correction. The children were built up not beaten down. All I have to say is that it works! They live as a family and EVERYONE is treated with respect. No one person any less important than another. We are all equal in Gods eyes and that is exactly how this ranch is run.
Although my time was short, I feel extremely honored to have experienced this place and honored to call them my friends. A huge Thank you to the young boy who pulled out my chair for me at every meal and to the young women who made sure I always had fresh water. Servants hearts at there best. May God continue to bless you! ~ Alissa Lee
